ROSELAND, NJ — The Roseland Amateur Radio Club, established in 1946, will celebrate its 70th anniversary on May 14 with a QSO party. The QSO party is a traditional event when ham radio operators attempt to contact many other radio operators nationally and throughout the world.
Friends, guests and local residents are invited to attend the QSO party and observe the members using the radio equipment and contacting like-minded amateurs. The events will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the club radio room located at the Roseland Emergency Services headquarters, 300 Eagle Rock Ave. in Roseland.
The Roseland Amateur Radio Club primarily provides communication support to the various police, fire and emergency services in western Essex County as they supervise both local service and nonprofit organizations in their activities, such as the Roseland Run for the Roses, Verona’s Arthritis Walk, the Heart Association Run, the Alzheimer’s Run and similar events. Members also operate and participate in various national and international amateur radio events. Club members build much of their own equipment and help new members qualify for licenses and upgrade their existing licenses.
The club meets every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at club headquarters.
