MORRISTOWN — The Seton Hall Prep football team defeated Delbarton 24-7 on Saturday, Sept. 19, to even its record to 2-2 on the season. This is the first Pirate victory over Delbarton since 2022, when they defeated them 32-27.
Delbarton took a 7-0 lead with 2:51 left in the first quarter. On the next Pirate drive, SHP went 70 yards in 11 plays, with senior quarterback Jaylin Bullock sneaking it in from the 1-yard line Senior Jackson DeStefano added the extra point to tie the game at 7-7 with 10:13 left in the second quarter.
Delbarton’s 44-yard field goal attempt was blocked by senior Trevor Wilson. The Pirates went 67 yards in 11 plays. DeStefano hit a 30-yard field goal with :51 left to give the Pirates a 10-7 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, sophomore Jameson Studer literally picked opportunity off the carpet, as a backward screen pass fell incomplete and Studer scooped up the ball and sprinted 52 yards to the end zone for a 17-7 lead with 4:40 to go. “I saw the intended receiver come out of the backfield, so I knew I just had to go make a play,” Studer said. “I did not hear a whistle, but either way, we are coached to just pick up the ball. So I just picked it up and ran towards the end zone.”
The Pirates pounced on that momentum to build on their lead. Three snaps into the ensuing possession, Bullock broke off right tackle and kept on going for a 50-yard scoring run that forged a 24-7 lead with 2:05 to go in the third quarter.
Following the game, Bullock said, “The scoreboard was shut off for us. We didn’t care and we just kept playing. Today, there was no pressure and no fear. We just came out and did what we were supposed to do.”
SHP head coach Bill Fitzgerald added, “We thought we could do some things on the outside to loosen them up, but you know, our identity is going to be run right at you. We got three 200-pound backs and the shortest distance between two points is a straight line.”

Next game: On Saturday, Sept. 26, the Pirates will host Pope John XXIII (Sparta) in their last Super Football Conference–White Division game at 1 p.m.
