UPDATE: Columbia HS baseball team posts two straight shutout victories

MAPLEWOOD/SOUTH ORANGE – The Columbia High School varsity baseball team posted back-to-back shutout wins.

Danny Boehmer hurled six scoreless innings with 12 strikeouts and Christian Pierre went 3-for-3 with a double, two stolen bases and a run to lead the Cougars to a 9-0 win over West Essex on April 13 in North Caldwell. Daniel Cotler had two hits with a double and three RBI; Luke Jackson had two hits with a double, two RBI and two runs; Quinn Krias had two hits with a double, two stolen bases and an RBI; Eliot Dix had two hits and an RBI and Reid Evans had two hits. The Cougars pounded out 16 hits.

Pete Nolet fired a six-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and two walks in the 8-0 win over Montclair Kimberley Academy on April 15 at Underhill Field. Dix went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI; Pierre went 3-for-4; Evans went 2-for-3 with a homer, four RBI and two runs; Jackson went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs; and Krais went 1-for-1 with a double, an RBI, a run and two walks.

The Cougars’ three-game winning streak ended with an 11-5 loss at Demarest on April 16. Dix went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run and Krais went 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and two runs. Ryan Davis went 1-for-2 with two RBI and Evans had a double with an RBI for the Cougars.

Dix hit a bases-loaded, walk-off RBI single off the right field wall in the eighth inning to lift CHS to a 7-6 home win over West Orange. Krais and Davis each went 2-for-4 with two RBI; Pierre had two doubles, an RBI, and two runs; and winning pitcher Reid Evans tossed two scoreless innings in relief as CHS moved to a 5-2 record.

CHS to play under lights at Cameron

The Cougars will play their third annual game under the lights at Cameron Field in South Orange on Saturday, April 30, when they host Montclair.

The junior varsity team will play at 5 p.m., while the varsity game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.

There will be a concession stand with refreshments and Cougar baseball clothing for sale, and the 2016 Cougar Baseball Yearbook will be available to all fans.
