BELLEVILLE – Nichole Henry finished third in the discus and fellow junior Kiara Collazo finished third in the javelin to lead the Belleville High School girls’ track and field team at the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 Championships at Ridge HS in Basking Ridge, May 27-28.
Henry tossed 106 feet-11 inches in the discus and Collazo, who won the Essex County title in the javelin the previous week, tossed 101-4 in the javelin.
As a result, Henry and Collazo qualified for the state Group 3 Championships at Northern Burlington Regional HS in Columbus, June 3-4. The top six finishers in each event earned berths for the Group Championships.
Collazo also finished eighth in the discus at 94-5 to miss qualifying for the Group meet in that event.
