NUTLEY – Jake Ramezzana, a junior, threw six scoreless innings of four-hit ball with five strikeouts and went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run; and senior Anthony Alonso went 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI, a walk and a run to lead the eighth-seeded Nutley High School varsity baseball team to a 6-2 win over ninth-seeded Carteret in the first round of the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 tournament on May 23 at the Park Oval.
The Raiders, who improved to a 18-9 record, will visit top-seeded Mendham in the quarterfinals on May 26. The semifinals are May 31. The final is June 3.
Mendham defeated 16th-seeded Voorhees, 2-1, in the first round.
