MAPLEWOOD — The Irvington High School football team defeated Columbia 56-0 on Monday night, Sept. 28, at Underhill Sports Complex’s Lynn V. Profeta Field.
The Blue Knights won their second straight game to improve to 4-1. Columbia fell to 0-5.
Irvington scored three touchdowns in the first quarter to take a 21-0 and three more TDs in the second quarter for a 41-0 halftime lead.
In the first quarter, junior Nadree Richardson scored on a 38-yard TD run for a 7-0 lead, senior Mitch Jenkins scored on a 25-yard TD run for a 14-0 lead and junior quarterback Justin Spellman hit senior Jamir Howell for a 41-yard TD pass. In the second quarter, junior running back Nyree Bailey had a 2-yard TD run to make it 28-0, Spellman hit junior wide receiver Shamyr Lyons on a 36-yard TD pass for a 35-0 lead and sophomore Mazai Logan had a 74-yard punt return to make it 41-0.
Spellman threw a 19-yard TD pass to junior wide receiver Sinaj Thomas-Williams in the third quarter to make it 48-0 and the Blue Knights’ defense recorded a safety later in the quarter to make it 50-0.
Sophomore backup QB Emanuel Roberson Jr. threw a 26-yard TD pass to senior Jazai Reid in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.
The game was moved from Saturday, Sept. 26, due to inclement weather.
The Blue Knights will host Shabazz on Friday, Oct. 2,at 7 p.m. Shabazz is 3-1.
Columbia will host Paterson Eastside on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. Eastside is 1-4.
