Golda Och hosts upcoming programs for prospective families

wo-goa-transition-wWEST ORANGE, NJ — Recognizing that families looking to switch their children from public school to private Jewish day school often have several questions about the transition process, Golda Och Academy is hosting two upcoming Coffee & Conversation meetings at the Wilf Lower School Campus in West Orange on Thursday, Dec. 15, and Wednesday, Jan. 18.

While students from a variety of Jewish educational backgrounds join Golda Och Academy’s vibrant and rigorous dual curriculum after the first grade, they are gradually transitioned to build Jewish literacy through individualized and flexible courses.  According to Gail Shapiro, director of admissions at GOA, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach for transitioning new students.

“We assess each incoming student’s needs in both our Upper and Lower schools to acclimate them to our dual curriculum,” Shapiro said in a press release. “This allows us to ensure the most successful transition for our new students.”

“We are always excited to welcome new students into the Golda Och Academy Lower School family,” Lower School Principal Carrie Z. Siegel said in the release. “When children come to us in the upper elementary grades, we work hard to individualize a Hebrew and Judaics program that meets their educational needs while welcoming them into the larger community.”

Lower School Admissions Director Mara Suskauer hopes these two upcoming programs will open the door to families who may not have thought it was possible to transition from a public to private school in grades two through four.

“We hope these discussions and informational sessions will provide interested families with additional tools to guide them in their decision-making process and help them understand how Golda Och Academy works with each student to ensure they receive an outstanding academic and Jewish values-based education,” Suskauer said in the release.
