UPDATE: East Orange Campus HS’ Marvellous Osagie-Erese nets 1,000th career point

EAST ORANGE – Senior guard Marvellous Osagie-Erese scored 28 points, including the 1,000th of her career, to lead the East Orange Campus High School girls’ varsity basketball team to a 56-42 win at West Orange on Jan. 28.

Osagie-Erese upped her total to 1,020 points after the game. Jessica Woods had 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks for EOCHS, which outscored West Orange, 20-5, in the third quarter for a 48-32 lead.

In previous action, the Lady Jaguars suffered their first loss of the season after starting 10-0, losing to St. Rose, 49-23, Jan. 27, at home.

St. Rose led 17-8 at the end of the first quarter and 29-10 at halftime. St. Rose maintained control in the second half, outscoring EOCHS, 9-7, in the third quarter and 11-6 in the fourth.

Jessica Woods had team-highs of 10 points and seven rebounds for the Jaguars. Marvellous Osagie-Erese had nine points; Sahara Crawford had four points and four rebounds; Barbara Jackson grabbed three rebounds and Moriyah Jordan blocked two shots.

After defeating West Orange, the Jaguars fell to Francis Lewis, N.Y., 47-42, Jan. 31, to move to an 11-2 record. Osagie-Erese had 13 points and eight rebounds; Jordan had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Woods added seven points and nine boards.

The defending champion Jaguars received the No. 1 seed in the 42nd Essex County Tournament. EOCHS received a bye in the preliminary rounds and will host a first-round game on Feb. 13.
