GLEN RIDGE — The Glen Ridge High School football team hopes to get back on the winning track after losing at Wallkill Valley 20-8 on a rainy Sept. 26.
The Ridgers led 8-7 at the end of the first quarter, but Wallkill Valley scored two touchdowns in the second half to win and improved to 5-0. Glen Ridge moved to 2-3.
After Wallkill Valley opened the scoring on a 36-yard run, junior Aiden Kelly scored on a 5-yard TD run and he added the two-point conversion.
Wallkill Valley scored on a 15-yard TD pass in the third quarter to retake the lead and added another TD on a 21-yard pass.
The game was originally scheduled to be played at Hurrell Field, but it was moved to Wallkill Valley.
It was the fourth straight road game for the Ridgers, who will travel to Verona on Oct. 2 and then visit Caldwell on Oct. 9. Verona, which was idle last week, is 1-3 after posing its first win of the season with a 21-10 victory at Indian Hills on Sept. 19.
Glen Ridge’s home game on Oct. 17 against Newark Collegiate Academy was cancelled. The Ridgers’ next home game will be on Oct. 24 against Whippany for only their second home game of the season. Glen Ridge hosted Newark West Side in the season opener on Aug. 29, winning 20-14 in overtime.
