The Pirates commemorate 9/11 vs. St. Thomas Aquinas.
WEST ORANGE — The Seton Hall Prep soccer team raised its record to 5-0 on the season, winning two matches last week.
On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the Pirates defeated Montclair Kimberley Academy 2-1 at Brendan P. Tevlin Memorial Field in West Orange. Sophomore Brody Angevine opened the scoring for the Pirates when he headed in a throw-in from sophomore Cooper Finn with 28:24 left in the first half. Montclair Kimberley tied the score at 1-1 with 24:18 left.
In the second half, junior Finnigan Salamone crossed a pass to junior Ciaran Bateson, who passed it to junior Giovanni Carnemolla, who finished it with 4:32 left. Senior goalie Liam Collins finished with four saves.
On Friday, Sept. 11, the Pirates defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 1-0 at Tevlin Memorial Field. With 6:30 left in the first half, Carnemolla scored from a pass from Salamone, who received a cross from Angevine. Collins had six saves to record his third clean sheet of the season.
Seton Hall Prep, currently ranked No. 6 in the nj.com top 20, was scheduled to host West Orange, No. 2 in the same poll, on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
