WEST ORANGE — The Seton Hall Prep football team opened the 2026 season with a 28-21 loss on the road at Baltimore, Maryland, against the Mount St. Joseph Gaels at John M. Plevyak Field on Friday, Aug. 28.
In the second quarter, after a Gael punt, the Pirates traveled 48 yards in 10 plays, with senior quarterback Jaylin Bullock pushing his way in from the 1-yard line. Senior Jackson DeStefano added his first of three extra points to give the Pirates a 7-0 lead on the last play of the second quarter.
On their first drive of the third quarter, the Gaels tied the score at 7-7 with 5:27 left.
On the Pirates’ next possession, Seton Hall went 65 yards in six plays, as Bullock scored again from the 1-yard line to make the score 14-7 with 3:21 left.
Early in the fourth quarter, sophomore linebacker Schuyler Travis intercepted a Gael pass in the flat and returned it 59 yards to increase the Pirate lead to 21-7 with 11:17 left. On the next Gael drive, they went 60 yards in four plays to cut it to 21-14 with 9:34 left. Later in the quarter, the Gaels went 97 yards in 12 plays to cut it to one. Senior defensive lineman Joshua Griffith blocked the extra point, as the Pirates maintained a 21-20 lead with 2:20 left. The Gaels scored the winning touchdown and two-point conversion pass with :39 left to give them a 28-21 lead.
SHP stat leaders
Junior Leonard West had 16 carries for 104 yards. Bullock also had 16 carries for 87 yards and 2 TDs. Sophomore Adonis Rabrun had 10 carries for 67 yards.
Defensively, senior defensive back Taylor Daniels had 10 tackles (3 solo). Senior linebacker Michael Ferrara had 9 tackles (3 solo). Senior linebacker Colin Moore had 8 tackles.
On Friday night, Sept. 4, the Pirates will travel to Wayne to take on DePaul Catholic at 6 p.m.
