MAPLEWOOD/SOUTH ORANGE —The Columbia High School boys soccer team defeated West Essex 4-2 on Wednesday, Sept. 16, giving first-year head coach Erik Hamilton his first victory.
Junior Marc Dyvens Philippe and senior Flynn Dannheisser each had two goals. Junior Nathaniel Goldberg had two assists. Sophomore Cooper Schwartz and Senior Lucca Bruno each had one assist. Sophomore Mattias Calderon Chubb made six saves.
The Cougars then defeated Irvington 5-0 on Monday, Sept. 14, to improve to 2-1-1 on the season. Dannheisser had a hat trick. Seniors Zane Merriweather and Ethan Ancia each had a goal. Senior Yuta Goldberg had two assists. Sophomore Cooper Schwartz each had an assist.
Calderon Chubb made 21 saves and senior Jasper Harris made two saves.
