Lance Franzbert Morrow died on Sunday, September 13, 2026 in Livingston, NJ. He was 82 years old.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair, 67 Church Street, Montclair NJ on Saturday, October 17 at 10:30 am. The Service will also be live streamed and recorded on both Facebook and You Tube at https://www.uumontclair.org/worship
Lance was born in Arcadia, FL and grew up in Fort Myers, graduating from Fort Myers High School. He went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from First Presbyterian College (Eckerd College) and both a Masters and PhD from Duke University in Durham, NC.
He enjoyed a long career in higher education most recently as the Associate Director of Housing and Residential Life at New York University in New York City. Previously, he was the Director of the University of Michigan Residential College. He also served as Dean of Students at the College of Wooster, in Ohio. He taught African history, the subject of his research and dissertation, at Hiram College and St. Andrew’s College, also in Ohio.
Lance was a deeply inquisitive individual and that curiosity fed into everything he did. He was a life scout, avid hiker, studious academic, keen political observer, conscientious gardener, and a devoted friend and family man. Above all, Lance was a magnanimous spirit whose optimism, focused attention and care permeated everything.
He was an active and articulate member of the Coalition for a Nuclear-free Michigan. He was, also, an early member of the Fund for a Better Waterfront in Hoboken, working to save the waterfront for generations to come. Lance was a supporter of the Achieve Foundation of the South Orange-Maplewood School. Hefound joy in helping others and improving the world. “If you have your mind, you will never be bored.”
Lance is survived by his wife, Kathleen Reilly, his children Alexandra and William (Fern Jeffreys). As well as Margot Duley, his former wife.
