Thomas Anthony Murphy of Montclair NJ passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026 at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair New Jersey. He was 30 years old. Tom (or Big T as his friends knew him) was born in Glen Ridge NJ, attending Glen Ridge High School, playing varsity football, basketball and tennis. Tom also attended University of Mississippi and Essex County College. A longtime resident of Montclair, Tom was well known around Montclair as a friendly bartender at the more popular restaurants and bars, where he was known for his sense of humor. He enjoyed sports and was a lifelong fan of the Mets, NY Giants, and Brooklyn Nets.
Tom is predeceased by his mother Bridget Murphy. He is survived by his father, Scott Murphy, stepmother Kristin Hackett, brothers Daniel and Conor Murphy, and sister Colleen Murphy, his aunts, Kathy Murphy and Valarie Murphy, and uncles Barry Scully and Mark Scully.
Arrangements are being made through O’Boyle Funeral Home. A private family service is planned, with a memorial service at a later date.
