Seton Hall Prep senior Dan Gizzo captured the overall individual title at the Essex County Cross-Country Championship meet held at Brookdale Park in Bloomfield on Friday, Oct. 27.
Gizzo won the 5K race in a time of 15:27 in a field of 142 runners.
Senior Michael DiDonato was seventh (15:51.1) and sophomore Nolan Orr was 13th (16:14.9) for the SHP Pirates, who finished third in the team standings among the 20 teams. St. Benedict’s was first and Montclair was second.
Senior Ebizie Anuamadi was 21st in 16:42 to lead West Orange High School, which finished ninth in the team standings.
On the girls’ side, West Orange finished second in the team standings behind winner Millburn, which edged the Mountaineers by 12 points among the 17 teams.
Sophomore Samara Charles took 10th in 19:53 and junior Alina Chant took 13th in 20:10.4 to lead West Orange. Other West Orange runners included junior Kayla Robe, 18th in 20.34.7; junior Kathy Lopez-Jacobs, 21st in 20:44.7; senior Anna Favetta, 33rd, 21:28; freshman Tatianna Exius, 45th in 21:49.6; and freshman Tiara Wilson, 57th in 22:22.1.
