WEST ORANGE, NJ (updated Tuesday Oct. 25, 12:39 p.m.) – The Seton Hall Prep varsity football team dropped a 37-17 decision to DePaul on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon, Oct. 22, at Joe Suriano Stadium at West Orange High School to move to a 1-6 record on the season.
DePaul opened up a 14-0 lead after its first two possessions of the game. The Pirates cut the lead to 14-7 with 2:09 left in the second quarter when freshman quarterback Matt Colantuono scored on a three-yard run to cap a 14-play, 73-yard drive. Junior receiver Andrew Perez had three catches for 34 yards on the drive. Sophomore kicker Zach Hoban booted the extra point.
DePaul extended the lead to 17-7 with :02 left in the second quarter on a 22-yard field goal.
SHP cut the lead to 17-14 on its first drive of the third quarter as sophomore quarterback Aidan Gilman hit senior receiver Dwayne Warren on a 34-yard touchdown pass down the right sideline to cap a nine-play, 72-yard drive with 5:58 left. Warren had three catches for 47 yards on the drive. Hoban added the extra point.
DePaul scored two touchdowns later in the quarter before Hoban connected on a 21-yard field goal with :48 left to make the score 31-17 after three quarters. Warren caught a 43-yard pass and Perez had a 19-yard reception on the drive. DePaul (3-4) scored one more touchdown to close out the scoring.
