IRVINGTON, NJ — Gospel music artist George Sykes performed live musical entertainment for diners at this year’s annual pre-Thanksgiving Community Dinner served to the township’s seniors and needy at the Irvington Neighborhood Improvement Corporation Headquarters on 16th Avenue on Friday, Nov. 17.
At that event, at-large Councilwoman October Hudley said, “I would like to say thank you to our director, Deborah Simpkins, for putting on a fabulous event. Every year, it just gets bigger and bigger and, this year, I notice this year, she actually added a little flavor. We’re actually having some live entertainment, so I’m looking forward to not only some good food, but also some good music and sitting down here, celebrating this festive holiday with the people right here in the community. I consider us all as family and I’m so thankful for this event.”
Sykes and his singers will perform again on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 6 p.m., at Christian Pentecostal Church, confirmed Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs Director Donald Malloy, who added he wished he could attend the upcoming performance.
“Dec. 17 is my Christmas concert at (Irvington Neighborhood Improvement Corporation) Director Deborah Simpkins’ church, Christian Pentecostal Church, at 6 o’clock,” said Sykes on Friday, Nov. 17. “We’ll have everybody there. I’m hoping to have Donald Malloy there, Kenny Bobien, music promoter Sue Sue, Donnie Harper and a lot of special guests. We’ve got a 15-voice choir, seven-piece band and we’re going to do our thing.”
Sykes said he would also be performing a show for children that same day, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the church.
