SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — As Seton Hall University celebrates St. Patrick’s Day, the university recognizes the achievements of three members of the Seton Hall University community who were recently inducted into the “Irish Education 100” honor roll. This national list is published annually by the Irish Voice honoring prominent leaders in American education, especially at the university level, who are of Irish descent.

Honorees from Seton Hall University include Monsignor Joseph R. Reilly, rector and dean of the Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology; Alan B. Delozier, university archivist and associate professor of Catholic Studies with the University Libraries; and John H. Shannon, associate professor of legal studies with the Stillman School of Business.

Reilly, a South Orange resident and Mountainside native, was appointed a missionary of mercy, commissioned formally by Pope Francis at Saint Peter’s Basilica on Ash Wednesday. He served as Mass co-celebrant when the Holy Father, Pope Francis celebrated Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and canonized Blessed Junipero Serra during the historic visit to the United States this fall. In 2002, he was appointed rector and dean of the College Seminary of the Immaculate Conception Seminary at St. Andrew’s Hall; he was appointed rector and dean of Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology in 2012. He has served as a member of the Archdiocesan Priest Personnel Board; the Presbyteral Council; the Advisory Committee on Continuing Education and Ongoing Formation of Priests; the Archdiocesan Vocations Board; and the Board of Trustees of Seton Hall University.

Delozier of Springfield is involved with a wide range of duties impacting upon the maintenance and development of the Monsignor William Noé Field Archives & Special Collections Center, including facilitating research projects in such areas as university history, Irish and Irish-American culture, Catholic New Jersey, local history, United Nationals and the American Civil War. He is the executive director of the New Jersey Catholic Historical Records Commission, New Jersey state historian for the Ancient Order of Hibernians, vice president of South Orange Historical Society, Collection Development Committee member and mentor for the Catholic Research Resources Alliance and has held leadership positions including chairman of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference.

Shannon of Berkeley Heights is the recipient of Seton Hall’s Bernard J. McQuaid Medal for Distinguished University Service and the Albert Hakim Faculty Service Award. Recognized for incorporating information technology to enrich learning environments, his teaching portfolio includes legal environment, law and entrepreneurship, global business, corporate social responsibility and corporate governance. His research includes the intersection of law, business and technology, information privacy, corporate social responsibility and regulation of business. He is co-author of “The Legal Environment of Business: A Managerial and Regulatory Perspective.” Previously, he served as vice president of university affairs and dean of the Stillman School of Business. His memberships include Beta Gamma Sigma, the Academy of Legal Studies in Business and Friendly Sons of St. Patrick in West Orange.

An induction ceremony took place in New York at the residence of Irish Consul General to New York on Dec. 9, 2015.
