WEST ORANGE, NJ — Nick Salese of the West Orange Department of Public Works and Recycling has received both the Environmental Quality Award and the Public Works Award from the New Jersey Clean Communities Council, according to a recent press release.
The Public Works Award is presented to an employee who has developed a comprehensive litter abatement program and the Environmental Quality Award is given to a program that also promotes volunteer cleanup of public lands and sustains a reduction in litter through education.
In recent years, West Orange has implemented townwide shredding days as well as a “West Orange Clean” event where volunteers are invited to participate in a cleanup day.
“We are thrilled and impressed that Nick was able to win two awards this year, proving his commitment to serving the West Orange community,” NJCCC Executive Director Sandy Huber said in the press release. “We salute Nick for the changes he has made and are looking forward to see what program he comes up with next.”
With more than 50 percent of the state’s Clean Communities coordinators employed in municipal public works departments, Salese was selected for ongoing dedication to the NJCCC and its many initiatives, Huber said.
