BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield High School boys’ basketball team finished its season on a winning note.

Senior Brandon Abplanalp scored 16 points and junior Najeem Wilson had 10 points to lead the Bengals to a 69-51 home win over Scotch Plains-Fanwood in the season finale on Feb. 24.

The Bengals trailed 12-9 at the end of the first quarter, but rallied in the second quarter by outscoring Scotch Plains, 17-9, to take a 26-21 lead. BHS maintained control in the second half to hold on for the win.

Freshman Mike Ramos had eight points; sophomore Kyle Barrow and senior Olivier Georges each had seven points; junior Myles Toppin had six points; junior Francis Lorenzo had four points; senior Nassir Coppedge added three points and Judah Ibeh and junior Allen Shannon each had two points for the Bengals, who ended the season with a 9-17 record.

With a strong returning nucleus, the Bengals have reason to feel optimistic for next season.
