EAST ORANGE — Mayor Ted R. Green and the East Orange City Council, in partnership with Clyde Bradshaw, the East Orange Hall of Fame and WBGO, will host the 50th Reunion Summer League Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 15, from noon to 8 p.m., at Elmwood Park/Harry James Basketball Court, located at Elmwood Avenue and Oak Street in East Orange.
Celebrating the basketball legends of the 1970s and 1980s, this milestone community event will bring generations together for a full day of championship basketball, classic sounds and house music in honor of East Orange’s rich sports and cultural legacy.
“East Orange has always been a city where legends are made, and the Summer League is part of that proud history. For 50 years, these courts have brought our community together, helped shape generations of young people and given talented athletes like our own Clyde Bradshaw a place to dream bigger and see what was possible. This celebration is about honoring the people who built that legacy while making sure the next generation has the same opportunities to learn, compete and succeed. When we invest in our young people and keep traditions like this alive, we keep East Orange strong. I invite everyone to come home, come out and celebrate 50 years of basketball, music, memories and East Orange pride,” said Green.
“Basketball opened doors for me that I could never have imagined when I was a young kid playing right here in East Orange. It took me from East Orange High School to DePaul, the Final Four, the NBA Draft and beyond, but no matter where the game took me, East Orange was always home. That’s why this 50th Reunion means so much to me. We’re honoring the legends who came before us, celebrating the players who helped build this tradition and, most importantly, showing our young people what is possible when talent is matched with discipline, mentorship and opportunity. This is bigger than basketball – it’s about passing the legacy on to the next generation,” said Bradshaw, former DePaul University All-American and 1981 NBA Draft pick.
