IRVINGTON, NJ – The Irvington High School varsity football team has looked downright impressive in winning five straight games to start the season.

Now, first-year head coach Ashley PIerre’s squad will get its first real test.

The Blue Knights, coming off a 34-18 win at Millburn last week, will host Wayne Valley this Saturday, Oct. 15, in a battle of undefeated teams.

The Blue Knights are 5-0. Wayne Valley is 6-0.

The game could help determine the winner of the North Jersey Super Football Conference Freedom White Division. Each team is 1-0 in the division. Wayne Hills (5-1 overall, 1-0 division) and Passaic Valley (2-2, 0-1) also could factor in the race. Belleville and Millburn are the other teams in the division.

It will be the first Saturday game for the Blue Knights this season. It is also their first afternoon game of the year. Irvington has played all its games under the lights on Fridays.

Irvington and Wayne Valley also could meet in the state North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 playoffs this season.

The Blue Knights sparkled in their victory over winless Millburn. Jyvon “Silky” Brown completed 10 of 15 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns and ran 10 times for 58 yards and another touchdown.

Al-Nazir Blackman rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on eight carries and Nim Salaam had 51 rushing yards on six attempts.

Karon Gray caught two touchdown passes and finished with four catches for 39 yards.

Jasiah Provillon also caught four passes for 140 yards and a touchdown. Tyhmir Lassiter had one catch for 43 yards.

The defensive leaders for the Blue Knights were Lassiter (11 tackles), Jason Antwi (10 tackles), Salaam (nine tackles with three for losses, one sack, one forced fumble), and Brown (one interception).

Millburn fell to 0-5.
