WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange High School junior Corbin Raston enjoyed stellar performances at the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s indoor track and field state Meet of Champions at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility on Staten Island, New York, on Sunday, March 2.
Raston took second place out of 18 competitors in the girls 200-meter dash finals in 24.15 seconds. Sianni Wynn, of Pennsauken, was first in 23.31.
Raston also took seventh place out of eight competitors in the 55-meter dash finals in 7.16. She advanced to the finals after taking seventh out of 22 competitors in 7.17.
Also in the 200-meter dash, WOHS freshman Celeste Owens placed 18th in 25.96.
Junior Sofia Morillo and the girls 4×400-meter relay team also competed at the meet. Morillo placed 14th in the triple jump at 35 feet, 6 inches. The 4×400-meter relay team placed 29th in 4 minutes, 16.60 seconds.
On the boys side, the 4×400-meter relay team was the lone competitor for WOHS, taking 17th place in 3:29.74.
SEC-American meet results
The WOHS boys and girls indoor track and field teams posted strong performances at the Super Essex Conference–American Division Championships on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the Ocean Breeze Facility.
The following are their top-six results:
Girls
In the 200-meter dash, sophomore Rhia Randolph took first place in 24.25 seconds; Raston took second place in 24.54 and Owens took fourth place in 25.37.
Junior Ava Neretic took first place in both the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 18.71; and the 3,200-meter run in 11:52.34.
In the 55-meter dash finals, Raston took second place in 7.18, Owens took third place in 7.33, and Morillo took sixth place in 7.41.
The 4×400-meter relay team took second place in 4:12.85.
Senior Tayla Wilson took third place in the 400-meter dash in 58.94.
Sophomore Cassidy Ortiz took fourth place in the 800-meter run in 2:25.74.
Senior Anisha Ellis took fourth place in the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches.
Boys
Senior Lyfe Smith took first place in 1:58.13 and senior Cooper Harwood took fifth place in 2:01.77 in the 800-meter run.
Senior Andres Acosta took first place in the 400-meter dash in 50.47.
Freshman Ikeh Ibek-Uzor took sixth place in the 55-meter finals in 6.79.
Junior Jordan Jackson took sixth place in the 200-meter dash in 23.21.
Senior Sahli Negassi took sixth place in the 1,600-meter run in 4:43.01.
