MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The township of Maplewood will present a free concert featuring The United States Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus in the Memorial Park Amphitheater on Sunday, Sept. 2, at 6 p.m. Featuring more than 90 musicians and vocalists, the combined ensemble will perform a program which includes patriotic favorites, popular songs and a selection of classical works.
“We are thrilled to host these world renowned musicians,” said Maplewood Mayor Vic DeLuca, who called the event “historic and unmissable.”
The Concert Band is the oldest and largest of the Field Band’s four performing entities. This elite 65-member instrumental ensemble, founded in 1946, has performed in all 50 states and in 25 foreign countries for audiences totaling more than 100 million. The Soldiers’ Chorus, founded in 1957, is a 29-member mixed choral ensemble that travels throughout the nation and abroad performing separately and in joint concerts with the Concert Band.
Adding a local component to this exciting presentation, student musicians from Columbia High School have been invited to appear along with the Concert Band during a portion of the performance.
“We are thrilled and excited for our outstanding musicians to have the opportunity to perform with this world-class ensemble,” CHS Director of Bands Peter Bauer said. “One of our goals is to provide our students with the finest experiences in music possible, and they don’t get much better than to perform with the Army Band and Soldiers’ Chorus.”
