Glen Ridge now collecting leaves from homeowners

GLEN RIDGE, NJ — New Jersey state law prohibits disposal of leaves this fall with other garbage at the resource recovery facility. The borough is mandated to provide pick up and removal to an approved, designated compost area.
The borough of Glen Ridge has contracted a truck to specifically pick up bagged leaves at curbside.

The collections will continue Dec. 19 Dec. Residents must use biodegradable bags or clear plastic bags. No black bags will be accepted for pick up.

These curbside pickups will be made on your first regular scheduled garbage collection each week.

• If your garbage is picked up on Mondays and Thursdays, Monday will be your leaf collection day through Dec. 17.
• If your garbage is picked up on Tuesdays and Fridays, Tuesday will be your leaf collection day, with a final pickup date of Dec. 18.
• If your garbage is picked up on Wednesdays and Saturdays, Wednesday will be your leaf collection day with a final pick-up date on Dec. 19.
Leaves may not be placed curbside on your second collection day of the week; Thursday, Friday, or Saturday.
• Bags must only contain leaves
• Leaf bags will not be picked up if they exceed a 50-pound weight limit.
• No garden debris mixed with leaves
• No grass clippings mixed with leaves
• No mulch, dirt or rocks mixed with leaves
• No sticks or branches mixed with leaves
• Garden and yard debris is picked up at the curb on your first scheduled collection day — Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday — and must be packaged separately from leaves.

Leaves may not be raked onto any streets or gutters in the borough, including county roads.
Bags may not be placed into any streets or gutters in the borough, including county roads.

New Jersey laws and borough of Glen Ridge ordinance provide for penalties for residents who do not follow this program.
For the convenience of residents, sturdy 55-gallon plastic bags are available at the Municipal Building at a minimal cost.
Regular collection of garbage will be collected twice, as usual, each week.

For additional information, call the Public Works Department at 973-748-8400, ext. 223
Your cooperation is appreciated.
