SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — For the fourth straight year, the South Orange Public Library, 65 Scotland Road, has announced March as Makers Month, a month-long celebration of exploration and invention, with creative programs for all ages and interests. On Saturday, March 10, the library will host a digital citizenship program from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., presented by the South Orange Historical Preservation Society in partnership with Seton Hall University and SOPL. Guests can learn about researching their family history with genealogical tools such as Ancestry.com, searching for their town’s history using the library’s local history wiki, and about preserving their personal records with SHU archivist Alan Delozier.
Makers Month culminates in a full day of activities called Makers Mayhem on Saturday, March 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Scheduled activities include 3D printing and scanning; kite making; Squiggle Art with William Roth; a community Lego Wall; and much more.
Other events currently scheduled include an Arts & Crafts Makers Buffet on Saturday, March 17, from noon to 5 p.m.; Foody Fridays at 3:30 p.m.; a virtual reality demo with Oculus Rift on Tuesday, March 20, at 3:30 p.m.; and a regular schedule of storytimes and musical performances from the Good Tymes String Band and Wilma & The Wingers.
In addition, the weekly Teen X-Change program, in which Seton Hall University students help teens with homework and play games each Thursday at 3:30 p.m., will feature activities ranging from jewelry making to sewing to book making with the Book Arts Roundtable.
