Construction work continues in South Orange

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — This August, several roads in South Orange are scheduled to be repaved, according to releases from the village.

On Aug. 13 and 15, Brentwood Drive, Inwood Lane and Speir Drive are scheduled, weather permitting, to be milled and paved. On Aug. 14 and 16, Cumberland Road and Briar Court are scheduled to be milled and paved. On Aug. 10 and 17, Tillou Road, West Third Street and Seton Place are scheduled to be milled and paved.

Milling and paving work will be done from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; during this time, there will be no access to the driveways on those streets until after 7 p.m. Residents are advised to move their cars to nearby streets just prior to 7 a.m. The asphalt needs time to cure and cannot be driven on for approximately one hour after rolled and compacted.

Residents with questions regarding road closures or specific construction issues can contact South Orange Village Deputy Engineer Ed Gulyas at 973-378-7715, ext. 2266.

In addition to the milling and paving, curb, sidewalk and drainage work is scheduled to begin Aug. 20 on Tichenor Avenue. The work will be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is planned to take two months, weather permitting. Residents may notice yellow, blue, green and/or red spray paint markings in the road and sidewalk area; they are to help locate the respective underground utilities in the area.

During this time, driveway access on Tichenor Avenue will be limited. Although this can be an inconvenience, South Orange has promised to try to minimize this disruption. During this construction period, cars will not be allowed to be parked on the road. Residents may park in their driveways overnight, but the village is recommending they relocate them to a side street prior to the start of work if residents plan on driving that day.

If a resident needs to park overnight on the roadway, contact the South Orange Police Department at 973-763-3000 or the Parking Authority at 973-378-7715, ext. 2037, and inform them that there is roadwork on your street.

If you have a sprinkler system near the curb and sidewalk area, please locate them for the contractor. The village and contractor will not be responsible for damages, according to the village; if damages do occur, notify Gulyas.

Do not approach or attempt to discuss the project with individual workers as they do not have the authority to make changes to the project scope or perform additional work. Any disturbed areas as a result of the work being performed will be top soiled and seeded. For more information about road closures or specific construction issues, contact Gulyas.
