BELLEVILLE – Belleville High School junior Kiara Collazo won the girls’ javelin event with a school-record throw of 120 feet-3 inches at the Essex County Track and Field Championships at Woodman Field in Montclair, May 20-21.
Collazo became the second BHS female to win a county title. The other was Cecilia Graham in the high jump in 1981.
Collazo also finished sixth in the discus at 97-10. Also in the discus, junior teammate Nichole Henry finished second with a school-record 111-1.
On the boys’ side, Gustavo Viana finished sixth in the javelin at 155-4.
The Bucs will compete at the state sectional championships at Ridge HS in Basking Ridge, May 20-21.
