BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield High School girls’ varsity basketball team continues to surge.
The Lady Bengals, under head coach Dana Morton, defeated Livingston and Verona to extend its winning streak to seven games and improve to a 10-1 record.
Junior guard Grace Cannon scored 23 points and senior forward Aniyah Allen had 17 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks and three steals to lead the Bengals to a 65-38 home win over Livingston on Jan. 19. Junior guard Genesis Collins had 10 points, nine assists and four rebounds; senior guard Samantha Corio had six points and five rebounds; junior forward Kasey Courey added four points and sophomore forward Aicha Naouai grabbed five rebounds and scored two points for the Bengals. Sophomore guard Raquel Plata also had two points.
Cannon had 11 points and had eight rebounds and Allen had nine points and 12 rebounds to lead the Bengals to a 39-16 win at Verona on Jan. 21. Collins had nine points and Naouai had four points and 11 rebounds.
The Bengals’ game at Nutley was postponed on Saturday, Jan. 23, due to the blizzard and will be rescheduled for Friday, Jan. 29, at Nutley at 7 p.m. Nutley is led by McDonald’s All-American senior guard Blair Watson, who will play at the University of Maryland next season.
