IRVINGTON – Return to prominence!

That is the theme for this year’s Irvington High School indoor track and field program.

Under head coach Marvin Hawkins, both the boys’ and girls’ teams feature talented athletes who Hawkins said will bring the Blue Knights back to the dominant years of 2004-2013 which featured many championships.

The Blue Knights’ tradition of hurdles, sprints, and jumps will continue and will be led by a talented core of sprinters featuring Ali Abass, Craig Bradley, Tyrone Daniels, Charles Golden-Felton, Quadri Shannon, Johnathan Carlon, and newcomer All-Area soccer player Adamsky Jean-Phillippe. The distance team will feature All-Area performers Michael Veltz, Monfort Celestin, Brandon Moreno, and Jerry Pierre. Tavaughn Whyte, James Ely, and Jason Cills anchor a balanced attack in the hurdles.

The Lady Knights are improved and talented as well and will be led by sprinters Mahogany Bass and Vicky Molokwu, veteran hurdler Taneisha Saxton, and Noemie Nieves and Taniyah Greene in the middle distance, in addition to talented newcomers Adjeilyn Akrong, Mical Ceus, Princess Walker, Fritzlyn Eugene, Sherine Dawkins, Yasmine Thelusma, Angella Harding, Pearl Wiggins-Bateman, Alizea Kennedy, and Anathalie Thelemaque.

IHS enjoyed fine results to open the season during the Bishop Loughlin Games, a national track meet that was held in the new Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility in Staten Island on Saturday, Dec. 21.

The following are IHS results:

55-meter dash: Shannon, 6.96, 38th out of 202. Carlon, 7.0, 43rd. Bradley, 7.03, 52nd.

Sophomore sprint medley: second place, 4:02, Veltz (2:10), Jefferson Sainval (26.9), Terrell Williams (27.0), Whyte (56.4)

300-meters: Bass, 47.6, 159th out of 284. Mical Ceus, 52.44, 251st. Akrong, 53.52, 256th.

Coach Hawkins’ notes: The meet featured 310 teams from seven states and two countries and was live webcast throughout the nation. Mahogany Bass, Quadri Shannon and Michael Veltz had the best performances for the Blue Knights.
