Irvington HS track and field teams give good efforts at sectional meet

IRVINGTON, NJ – The Irvington High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams gave good efforts at the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 State Championships at Middletown North HS, May 25-26.

The boys’ team finished in 12th place in the boys’ team standings. The girls’ team finished 16th in the girls’ team standings.

Keano Fearon, a senior, finished second in the 400-meter dash in 49.92 to lead the IHS boys. Senior Tavaughn Whyte placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.36.

Whyte, senior Michael Veltz, Fearon, and sophomore Dwight Henry combined to finish fourth in the 4×100-meter relay in 43.66. Veltz, Fearon, Henry, and freshman Devin Seward took fourth in the 4×400-meter relay in 3:25.21.

On the girls’ side, junior Andrea Jackson finished fourth in 15.68 and senior Vicky Molokwu was sixth in 15.79 in the 100-meter hurdles. Jackson also was fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:07.37.

The top six finishers in each event will advance to the NJSIAA Group 3 State Championships at Central Regional HS, June 1-2.

100-meter dash: 7. Henry (11.29).

200-meter dash: 8. Henry (22.97). 11. Whyte (23.24). 33. Obodai Annan (24.11).

400-meter dash: 8. Veltz (50.76). 12. Seward (51.31).

800-meter run: 9. Desmond Marfo (2:01.43). 25. Fearon (2:08.68). 38. Cordell Litus (2:16.18).

1,600-meter run: 27. Marfo (4:50.29). 47. Adnon Kpodo (5:38.95). 48. Wilfrantz Therzy (5:58.23).

400-meter hurdles: 11. Whyte (1:00.60). 14. Litus (1:01.23). 23. Matthias Litus (1:03.51).

4×800-meter relay: 9. IHS (8:54.16).

Long jump: 24. Steve Corneille (17 feet-11 ½ inches).

Triple jump: 17. Jean-Charles (36-10 ½). 20. Corneille (36-8). 22. Shamar Frasier (36-3).

Discus: 29. Kyle Morley (65-11). 30. Keron Smith (62-1).

Shot put: 26. Morley (30-7 ½). 28. Smith (30-2).

Girls

800-meter run: 30. Cathiana Jean (2:41.49).

1,600-meter run: 19. Oyeleke Adijat (5:59.35).

3,200-meter run: 21. Adijat (13:45.08).

400-meter hurdles: 15. Molokwu (1:12.06). 29. Joanna Gonsalves (1:20.25).

4×100-meter relay. 13. IHS (54.55).

4×400-meter relay: 10. IHS (4:20.66).

Long jump: 12. Deja Bethea (15-6 ¼). 15. Molokwu (15-5 ½).
