WEST ORANGE – The Seton Hall Prep varsity ice hockey team defeated Red Bank Catholic, 3-2, in the season opener on Monday, Nov. 30, at Codey Arena in West Orange. It marked the debut of Mike Atkinson as the new SHP head coach.
Senior Keith Bishop scored off a feed from junior Thomas Freda to give SHP a 1-0 lead with two minutes left in the first period. Senior Niall Breagy made it 2-0 on an assist from freshman Declan House with 40 seconds left in the first. Red Bank Catholic cut it to 2-1 in the second period. Freshman Thomas Colucci had an unassisted goal with 4:29 left in the third period for a 3-1 lead. RBC scored with 40 seconds left to produce the final score. Junior goalie Jack McConeghy made 18 saves for SHP, which will host Pope John on Dec. 7 at 6:15 p.m. at Codey Arena.
