WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange High School and Seton Hall Prep football teams will kick off their seasons in the inaugural Rumble on the Raritan, which will be contested over two weekends, Aug. 31, Sept. 6 and 7, at SHI Stadium, home of Rutgers University in Piscataway.
The Rumble on the Raritan will showcase some of the best teams in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.
Seton Hall Prep, under second-year head coach Bill Fitzgerald, will face Archbishop Carroll of Radnor, Pa., on Aug. 31 at 5 p.m., the second of three games that day.
West Orange, under new head coach Darnell Grant, will face Montclair on Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. in a matchup of Super Essex Conference teams in the final game of the showcase.
For the second straight year, SHP will open the season against Archbishop Carroll.
In the opener last season, SHP lost to Archbishop Carroll, 54-38, at Cardinal O’Hara HS in Springfield, Pa.

7 p.m.: West Orange vs. Montclair
SHP went 5-6 last season, reaching the Non-Public Group 4 semifinals where they lost to Bergen Catholic.
WOHS is coming off a 3-7 playoff season, Last season the Mountaineers stunned state-ranked Montclair in the opener. Montclair avenged that loss in the first round of the North 1, Group 5 playoffs.
