SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Acclaimed actor John Amos is bringing his talents to the stage in Maplewood to support the Black Parents Workshop and the MapSO Freedom School, two partner organizations that advocate for the academic success of Black students in South Orange and Maplewood. Amos is performing his one-man play “Halley’s Comet” on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. at South Orange Middle School, 70 N. Ridgewood Road. Following the show, there will be a meet and greet with Amos.

Amos is noted for his signature roles in the landmark television series “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” and his iconic roles in “Good Times” and the historic made-for-television miniseries “Roots.” He has also had cinematic roles in “Coming to America,” “Let’s Do it Again” and “Dr. Doolittle 3,” among many character portrayals on the silver screen. “Halley’s Comet” is the story of a black man’s relationship with the famed comet and how its appearances framed his life experiences.
