GLEN RIDGE, NJ — The Glen Ridge Public Library will host the following upcoming adult and family events:
• Monday, Feb. 8, 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Adult coloring session. Come and experience the latest trend in relaxation, adult coloring books. Studies show coloring can have a calming effect on the adult mind and help promote overall wellness. Coloring pages from books designed especially for adults as well as colored pencils and crayons will be provided. Light refreshments will be available. Bring a friend and enjoy a relaxing evening.

Friday, Feb. 26, 6 to 8 p.m. Family Date Night will be held in the children’s area. Make it a family night out and join in for after-hours fun at the library. This event will feature snacks, crafts, and a special magic show from magician Steve Woyce. Register separately for each person attending. The snow date will be March 4. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. For more information, contact the Children’s Department at 973-748-5482.

• Friday, March 18, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Family Lego building challenge Glen Ridge families with children in grades pre-K through six. Form your family team for a fun Lego-filled night. Families will compete to build the most creative construction of the night. Creations will be judged by local architects and artists. All building must be done on site — no kits or instructions allowed. Bring your own Legos, and the library has a collection of extra Legos to use as well. Construction will focus around a surprise theme that will be revealed right before building begins. At least one parent or caregiver must accompany children. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to build with their children during the event. There will be snacks and Lego-themed activities as well. This event is part of the local celebration of NJ Makers’ Day. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Registration is required. To register, visit www.glenridgelibrary.org/ and go to the calendar.

• Thursday, April 7, 7:30 p.m. A presentation will be held on: “The National Register of Historic Places: The Role it Plays in Our Local Communities.” Established under the Historic Sites Act of 1935 and expanded by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Register serves as the official list of historic resources at the national level. Hundreds of N.J. properties are among the 77,000 listed on the National Register. Learn more about the properties and landscapes in the community which have received this national distinction, and gain a better understanding of how and why they are protected. Slides will accompany the lecture. Presented by Kathleen Galop, historic preservation consultant. The program is funded by the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Presented by the Glen Ridge Public Library and Glen Ridge Historical Society. Light refreshments will be served.

• Thursday, April 28, 7:30 to 9 p.m. Adult story hour with Dale Russakoff will be held in the Adult Reading Room. Join the next adult story hour as we welcome Dale Russakoff, author of the critically acclaimed, “The Prize: Who’s in Charge of America’s Schools?” Russakoff, a New York Times bestselling author and Washington Post journalist, will be discussing her book, “The Prize,” a behind-the-scenes account of the 100 million-dollar grant from Mark Zuckerberg to help Newark’s failing school system. This book is a look at the school reform movement and the lessons learned. For more information contact the library at 973-748-5482.
