Essex County College offers Saturday youth programs

NEWARK, NJ — Essex County College will begin its fall 2019 Saturday Youth Program on Sept. 21 for 10 sessions at the main Newark campus.

The classes are geared toward children from age 5 to high school. Some of the programs have several sections to accommodate different age groups. There will be in-person registration on Sept. 14, 21 and 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Room 3291 in the Yellow Area on the Newark campus, 303 University Ave. Additional information, including tuition and fees for individual courses, is available at 973-877-3079.

Youth programs include algebra, for students in sixth through ninth grade; chess, for ages 9 to 15; composition writing, for grades five to eight; computer graphics, for ages 9 to 15; dance combo, for ages 5 to 11; discovering young artists, for ages 5 to 10; fun with phonics, for kindergarten through second grade; geometry, for grades nine and 10; improving penmanship, for ages 9 to 12; improving reading comprehension, for grades one through eight; martial arts, for ages 6 through 15; the Musical Performers Studio, for ages 8 to 15; No Sew Fashion, for ages 6 to 15; problem-solving math, for grades one through eight; Spanish for youth, for ages 6 to 11; STEM enrichment, for grades one through six; and Zumba for kids, for ages 6 to 11.

The college also offers preparation classes for specific standardized tests, also on Saturdays during the youth program sessions. For students in grades 11 and 12, SAT English will run from 10:40 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. and mathematics preparation classes will run from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m.
