WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange resident CC Minton will be honored at the fourth annual Dream Maker Scholarship Awards on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Rutgers University in Newark.
The awards honors leaders in public service, business and civic life in Newark. Humanitarian Michael Gray, along with Save Our Nations Inc., will recognize Minton along with notables Assemblywoman Britnee Timberlake, J. Douglas Reid-Green, Michael Bright, Rick Thigpen, Rufus Johnson, Sarah Jones and Subir Saha. Congressman Donald M. Payne Jr. is the event honorary chairman.
The charity event will continue to raise funds for young people affected by fatal diseases in the African diaspora, including Newark students. Last year the fundraiser provided scholarships and school supplies to students in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
Minton is a nationally recognized, award-winning health and lifestyle advocate, author, brand ambassador, media contributor, and a recipient of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition Leadership Award. She is also a New Jersey Best Kids Book Author, receiving national press for her children’s book “Daddy’s Greek Potato Pie.”
She has covered the Kids State Dinner at the White House, interviewed food notables such as Marcus Samuelsson as a health and lifestyle editor for Harlem World Magazine, and covered several New York City charity events. Minton is the chairwoman of the Junior League of Montclair-Newark and has served as guest panelist at the Jack and Jill of America Childhood Obesity Forum in Washington, D.C. She is a former member of the Wellness Council for the West Orange School District.
