GLEN RIDGE, NJ – Nicholas Fiorillo and Joe Marchesano each finished in second place in their respective weight classes to lead the Glen Ridge High School varsity wrestling team at the NJSIAA District 9 tournament held at Phillipsburg HS on Feb. 17.
Fiorillo reached the 126-pound weight class final where he lost to Mendham’s Alex Schlegel in a tough 2-0 decision.
Marchesano advanced to the 170-pound final, losing by pin to Lance Wissing of Phillipsburg in 1:26.
Glen Ridge was tied for seventh overall with Montclair among the nine teams. Phillipsburg won the team title.
Fiorillo and Marchesano advanced to the Region 3 tournament at West Orange HS, Feb. 21, 23 and 24. The Region tournament consists of the top six finishers in each weight class from the District 9, 10, 11, and 12 tournaments.
