VERONA, NJ – The 15th-seeded Verona/Glen Ridge high school varsity ice hockey team defeated 18th-seeded Mountain Lakes, 5-0, in the first round of the NJSIAA Pubic C state tournament on Feb. 19 at Codey Arena in West Orange.
Verona senior Sean DeCandia had two goals; Verona senior Dylan Ruggiero had a goal and an assist; GR junior Jake Kuhn and GR sophomore Alec Vecchione each had a goal; GR junior Andrew Martell had two assists; and GR senior Andrew Martino and GR sophomore Chandler Otterbein each had an assist. GR senior Colin Gilmore made 23 saves for the shutout.
Verona/Glen Ridge improved to 15-5-7 and was scheduled to face second-seeded Wall in the round of 16 on Feb. 21 at the Jersey Shore Arena.
