GLEN RIDGE – Glen Ridge senior assistant captain Owen Gleeson scored two goals and added one assist, and Verona freshman Jarrod Keating and Glen Ridge senior captain Stephen Wenzl each had one goal and one assist to lead the Verona/Glen Ridge high school varsity hockey team to a 5-2 win over Nutley on Jan. 10 at Richard J. Codey Arena in West Orange.
Glen Ridge freshman Jake Kuhn had one goal and Verona senior Liam Blaney made 20 saves for Verona/Glen Ridge, which snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to an 8-6-1 record.
Verona/Glen Ridge had its five-game winning streak snapped after losing to Montclair Kimberley Academy, 6-0, Jan. 6, at Clary Anderson Arena in Montclair. Verona/Glen Ridge then lost to Montclair, 4-1, Jan. 9, at Codey Arena. Wenzl scored the lone goal for Verona/Glen Ridge on assists by Verona sophomore Sean DeCandia and Kuhn.
