WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep basketball team went 1-2 this past week to move to a 5-4 record on the season.

On Wednesday, Jan. 2, Seton Hall traveled to Somerset to play Rutgers Prep. In a very exciting game, they lost 72-65. Tied at 61-61 with 3:37 left in the fourth quarter, Rutgers Prep outscored Seton Hall 11-4 to end the game. The loss ended the Pirates’ three-game winning streak.

Senior guard Ashton Miller was the high scorer with 29 points along with seven rebounds, while senior guard Geordan Walker scored 16 points and added three assists. Junior guard Colin Flaherty had four rebounds and seven assists to go along with four points and sophomore center Josh Hopson scored six points and had eight rebounds.

On Friday, Jan. 4, the Pirates  traveled to Montclair and defeated Montclair 48-29. Miller scored 13 points; Walker scored 12 points with 11 rebounds; junior forward Mario Bollo scored nine points with four rebounds; Flaherty had five rebounds and five assists; and Hopson pulled down eight rebounds.

Following the game, Miller said, “It is a fun team to be part of and we’re getting better each and every day. I just try and do my part and help lead this team and I like what I’ve seen, especially when we run our stuff.”

Walker said, “Our energy picked up in the second quarter when we really shared the ball well and everything else started to click.”

Eighth-year head coach Kevin William said, “Our chemistry is off the charts this year. It’s a great bunch of kids to coach and they come to practice every day ready to work hard. Our schedule is a beast, but as long as we are playing our best basketball at tournament time, that’s fine with me.”

On Sunday, the Pirates traveled to Harwood Arena on the campus of Kean University in Union to take on St. Mary (Elizabeth) in The Scholarship for Inner City Children Basketball Festival. This is the 16th year that this event has taken place. Seton Hall lost 63-51. Miller led the Pirates with 16 points, nine rebounds, and three assists; Bollo scored 12 points with four rebounds and four assists; and junior guard Mike Curran scored 12 points with four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
