Seton Hall Prep soccer team wins three of four games to move to 4-1

WEST ORANGE, N J – The Seton Hall Prep varsity soccer team went 3-1 last week to raise its record to 4-1 on the season.

On Monday, Sept. 11, the Pirates hosted West Essex at Brendan P. Tevlin Memorial Field and won, 5-1, in their first home game of the season. Senior forward Michael Pavick opened the scoring with 23:34 left in the first half on an assist by senior midfielder Paul Silva. West Essex tied the score at 1-1 with 14:02 left to send the teams into halftime. SHP came out strong in the second half, scoring four goals.

Junior midfielder Jon Ned scored two goals while sophomor forward Aidan Dunphy and senior midfielder Joe Cubero each scored one goal. Senior defenseman Adam Silva and senior midfielder Frank DeLuca each had two assists while Pavick, senior midfielder Nick Kriak each had one assist.

On Wednesday, Sept. 13, the Pirates hosted East Orange Campus and won, 7-0. Senior defenseman Jason Gomes scored two goals while senior midfielder Paul Silva, junior forward Skyler Storms, junior midfielder Dylan Perez, senior midfielder Tyler Davis, and DeLuca each scored one goal. Junior forward Nate Dean had two assists, while junior midfielder Brian Zimmermann, senior defenseman Max Engelbrechtsen, Kriak, Adam Silva, sophomore forward Aidan Dunphy, DeLuca, and Cubero each had one. Senior goalie Gabe Ferreira and junior goalie Anthony Petruzziello combined on the shutout.

On Friday, Sept. 15, the Pirates hosted Dickinson of Jersey City for their third straight home match and won, 3-1. Kriak scored on assists by Pavick and Ned with 13:02 left in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Adam Silva and Ned scored in the second half before Dickinson scored with 15:30 left. Kriak had an assist on the Ned goal.

On Sunday, Sept. 17, the Pirates traveled to the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa. to take on The Hill School from Pottstown, Pa. in the Mainline High School Jamboree. They lost a tough match 1-0 despite out-shooting The Hill School 8-6. Gabe Ferreira played very well in goal stopping five shots.

USA Today/United Soccer Coaches Region III – No. 7, News 12 Varsity – Tri-State No. 2 and New Jersey No. 2, NJ.Com – No. 2 in New Jersey, No. 2 – Non-Public Schools, and No. 1 – Super Essex Conference.
