IRVINGTON – Irvington residents Kareem Walker and Hasise Dubois, both seniors, helped the seventh-seeded DePaul Catholic High School varsity football team to a 34-7 win over third-seeded Delbarton in the state Non-Public Group 3 playoff semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 21, in Morristown.
Walker, an All-American, rushed for 136 yards on just nine carries, including an 86-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to make it 21-7 for the first TD of the quarter.
DePaul added two more touchdowns to produce the final score.
Dubois, a wide receiver who has verbally committed to the University of Virginia, finished with five receptions for 64 yards.
Delbarton fell to 8-3.
The DePaul Spartans, who improved to a 5-6 record, are seeking their third straight state championship. The Spartans will face top-seeded St. John Vianney in the championship game on Saturday, Dec. 5, at Rutgers University at 10 a.m. St. John Vianney is 11-0.
Wayne-based DePaul won the Non-Public Group 2 state title in each of the past two seasons before moving up to Group 3 this season.
Walker, ranked No. 21 overall and No. 1 in his position in the country by rivals.com, recently decommited from Ohio State University. The 6-foot, 209-pound Walker was reportedly scheduled to make an official visit to Auburn University.
