Columbia HS baseball team seeks more progress

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Columbia High School varsity baseball team hopes to make more progress this season.

Christian Pierre had two hits, including a homer, four RBI and two runs; and Dan Lawall had two hits and two RBI in the 9-5 win over Caldwell on April 18 at Underhill Field. Aiden Mayberry had a double and two RBI; Eliot Dix had a triple, RBI and a run; and Rowan Marbury had a hit and a run. Michael Roseman pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits, five runs, four earned and two walks and striking out seven.

The Cougars lost to Seton Hall Prep, 7-3, Friday, April 20, at Underhill Field. Dix and Lawall each had an RBI. Marbury went 1-for-2 with a run and Phil Whitney went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. In the first meeting, CHS defeated Seton Hall Prep, 6-4, April 10.

Columbia fell to Demarest, 10-7, Saturday, April 21, at Underhill Field in a non-conference game to move to a 4-5 overall record. John DelGreco and Jake Lefferts each had two hits and two RBI, and Whitney and Zachary Altamore each had two hits and an RBI.

The Cougars defeated Newark Academy, 14-2, April 23, at Underhill Field to move to a 5-5 record. Whitney had two doubles, a single and four RBI; Luke Jackson had two doubles and two RBI; and Pierre and Lawall each had three hits.

GNT set to begin: The 86th Greater Newark Tournament seeding meeting was scheduled for  April 24, at CHS. Here is the GNT schedule:

Preliminary rounds: April 26, 28, and May 3 at the higher seeded teams’ field.

May 5, First round – at the higher seeded teams’ field.

May 10 – Quarterfinal round – at the higher seeded teams’ field.

May 12 – Semifinal round-  Doc Goeltz Field – Verona HS -11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

May 19  – Final round – Doc Goeltz Field – Verona HS – 4 p.m.
