Columbia HS football team blanks Newark East Side, 34-0

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Sophomore tailback Steve Henry rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown on just eight carries and junior running back Joe Holdbrook had 92 rushing yards and two scores on 12 carries as the Columbia High School football team defeated Newark East Side, 34-0, Friday, Oct. 11, at Lynn V. Profeta Field/Underhill Field Complex.

The Cougars, who started the season 3-0, snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 4-2.

Junior quarterback Nick Aaron completed seven of nine passes for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Henry opened the scoring on a 12-yard touchdown run with 1:46 left in the first quarter.

Senior running back Fred Holdbrook had a one-yard TD run with no time left in the first half.

Aaron threw a 15-yard TD pass to junior flanker Michael Caines with 8:15 remaining in the third quarter. Joe Holdbrook scored on a 10-yard run with 3:17 left in the quarter.

Joe Holdbrook added an eight-yard TD run with 8:52 left in the game.

Next game: The Cougars will visit Bayonne on Friday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m.  Bayonne is 4-2.
