Columbia HS girls’ soccer team seeks good run in state tournament

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Columbia High School girls’ varsity soccer team hoped to make a strong run in the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 state tournament.

The sixth-seeded Cougars were scheduled to host No. 11 seed Newark East Side in the first round on Oct. 30. The winner will face the winner of No. 14 seed Franklin and No. 3 seed Union in the quarterfinals on Nov. 2. The semifinals are Nov. 6 and the final is Nov. 9.

The Cougars defeated Verona, 2-1, Oct. 23 at Underhill Field in a Super Essex Conference crossover game.

Grace Bratter and Lia Holstein each had a goal, and Meredith Meyer had an an assist. Lindsay Camara and Emma Herrero each made one save for the Cougars.

Columbia defeated Cedar Grove, 7-0, Oct. 25 in a SEC crossover game at Underhill Field. Bratter and Maritxwell Gallart each had two goals. Mimi Joseph, Holstein, and Svea Wickelgren each had a goal. Meredith Meyer and Ceci Munoz each had two assists and Lindsay Camara made two saves for CHS.

Columbia tied Morris Catholic, 2-2, Oct. 26, at Underhill Field. Meredith Meyer and Ava de la Torre each had a goal; Munoz and Sophia Ratkevich each had an assist and Herrero made five saves for the Cougars, who moved to a 9-6-2 record.
